Frequently Asked Questions

  • Our sessions will take shape based on your reason for seeking therapy and the goals we ascertain together.

Our first and second session are primarily for the purpose of getting to know each other, getting to understand your reasons for seeking therapy in further detail, and coming up with goals for how to proceed. This is a collaborative process, meaning we will work together to come up with a treatment plan rather than me telling you how we should proceed without your input.

I don’t “treat” you by analysing you and giving you theories of why you are the way that you are. I hold space for us to go deeper into what is present for you (what comes up in the moment), helping you navigate your way through the session. In this way, I am facilitating the session to allow you to develop the tools necessary for the changes you seek, in a safe and paced way.

  • I am a registered Psychotherapist with the Australian Counselling Association (Level 2).

I have a Bachelors degree in Integrative Psychotherapy, which required a mixture of theoretical study spanning a great breadth of the fields current understanding of human development, psychopathology, culture and family systems, with experiential learning throughout the degree. This training has given me is the ability to work with people relationally that is evidence-based.

I am also currently completing a Masters in the Conversational Model, which is a trauma informed, attachment-theory based psychodynamic model.

I utilise the most appropriate theories and models to develop a treatment plan based on collaboratively set goals - we work on this together so that we work in a way that suits you. You will be a part of every step we take, empowering you to embark on the process according to your own pace.

This is different to other mental health professionals who may use a more prescriptive, one-size-fits-all approach. The strength of my approach is the flexibility to accommodate each client’s uniqueness and simultaneously being practical and evidence-based.

  • Yes, all personal details and information discussed inside and outside sessions are kept strictly confidential though there are a few exceptions by law. This will be discussed in our first session.

  • Psychotherapy is shown to be most effective when experienced on a regular basis. I usually work with clients on a weekly basis to help maximise the benefits it offers but if this is problematic I would be happy to discuss alternatives, such as working fortnightly.

  • Sessions are $130 for an hour. Since psychotherapists are not currently covered under the Mental Health Rebate Scheme I can't offer Medicare Rebates. This is partly why my fee is lower than professionals, such as Clinical Psychologists, who generally charge more than this but can offer a partial rebate.

  • No, unfortunately Medicare does not currently offer rebates for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

  • Potentially, it depends on your provider and level of cover. If in doubt, check with your provider.
